When I became a DJ for the ballroom scene in 2012, I never expected to have been going this long. It may not seem that long, but eight years of studying, practicing, and executing my craft has been much like college for me.

The homework was tedious and annoying at times, some of the teachers really got on my nerves, and some of the tests and exams were not only hard but appeared the same way as a pop quiz; unexpected. in those moments, where I feel like I should give up, I remember being 14, longing for an escape, hearing this music and not feeling so alone afterwards; still hiding my queerness from my mother, inching my way out of the closet while also making room for me to be my full self.

I hope what I do teaches that 12 year old in the rural area who’s feeling like nobody will ever like them or appreciate them or congratulate them.

You’re celebrated and have the space to PUMP and SERVE as your ancestors have.

They were displaced so you can be put IN place.

This is for all those that made me feel like I wasn’t alone.
